Maintaining Your Current R-22 System

The right decision for some systems may be to stay with R-22.

When To Maintain An Existing System

  • System is designed for R-22 and has been running well, staying with R-22 may be the best choice for optimal performance.
  • System is running well with minimal leaks.
  • System currently does not have good retrofit options due to cost and/or design.

Leak Maintenance

Part of maintaining an R-22 system is to conduct thorough inspections to identify and repair leaks at their source. URI stocks a variety of leak detection technologies, including permanent leak detection systems which give early warning of a leak to minimize refrigerant loss. Ask your URI sales representative for more information about leak detection options.

EPA Refrigerant Status for Maintaining Systems

The federal SNAP restrictions regarding HFC's no longer apply; however, state regulations may still exist. Please refer to the Refrigerant Regulatory Updates Page for state specific information.

Refrigerant Management: A Resource You Can Count On

As production of newly-manufactured R-22 is phased out, the industry will rely on reclaimed R-22 for service of existing systems. URI offers services through National Refrigerants, Inc. (NRI), the largest independent reclamation facility in the world, to aid in the preservation of the supply of reclaimed R-22.

NRI's on-site AHRI-certified laboratory supports continuous quality assurance programs, and adherence to strict standards that turn recovered refrigerants into a sustainable industry resource. NRI's reclamation program helps to guarantee your future refrigerant supply.

NRI's reclamation progam features:

  • EPA- and AHRI-certified facility
  • Handling and processing of various mixed refrigerants
  • Refrigerants reclaimed to AHRI 700 Standards
  • Refrigerant Banking Program
